Start with track seven: A sublime rendering of Cole Porter's "Night and Day." It is cool yet summery, detached yet impassioned—with just a slight touch of bossa nova flair. It is, quite simply, Bebel Gilberto, who, in seven or so years, has mapped out her own niche, one where traditional Brazilian sounds seamlessy groove with contemporary electronic rhythms. This sensibility is heard throughout "Memento," a collection of songs that finds Gilberto, who co-wrote the bulk of the material, collaborating with producers like Guy Sigsworth and Béco Dranoff. For the percolating "Bring Back the Love," Gilberto worked with Brazilian Girls, who know a thing or two about crafting dancefloor-ready songs. More soothing are "Cadê Você?" and the title track. Another postcard-perfect soundtrack for summer. —Michael Paoletta
