'BOOM' CRASHES NO. 1: When an act takes over the top of two of Billboard's airplay charts in the same week, especially a pair as popular as Mainstream Top 40 and Rhythmic, a true multi-format smash has arrived.
Such is the case with the Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow," which becomes the quartet's second No. 1 on Mainstream Top 40 and first on Rhythmic with a 2-1 rise on both tallies. The song reached an estimated audience of 99 million in the chart's tracking week among the panels' almost 200 combined reporters.
History shows that when a song conquers these two formats in the same week, it's bound to stay on top for awhile. Here is a look at the four previous tracks to storm to such double dominations since the surveys launched in 1992:
"Irreplaceable," Beyonce, 2006 (8 weeks atop Mainstream Top 40, 7 weeks atop Rhythmic)
"Lose Yourself," Eminem, 2002 (7 weeks atop Mainstream Top 40, 6 weeks atop Rhythmic)

"Boom Boom Pow" makes additional history: it joins 'N Sync's "Bye Bye Bye" and Destiny's Child's "Jumpin', Jumpin' " in 2000 as the only Mainstream Top 40 No. 1s to repeat a word at the start of their titles. On Rhythmic, it's similarly the third such song, alongside B2K & P. Diddy's "Bump, Bump, Bump" (2003) and Chris Brown's "Kiss Kiss" (2007).
'BIRTHDAY' CELEBRATION: 21-year-old Chicago native Jeremih lands his first Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop No. 1, as "Birthday Sex" soars 5-1. The track's four-position vault to the top is the greatest by a new artist since Tweet flew 6-1 with her debut entry "Oops (Oh My)" in 2002.
With the sultry song's coronation, Jeremih, featured in a recent Billboard Breaking & Entering new artist profile (http://www.billboard.com/breakenter/jeremih-1003962439.story), topples Jamie Foxx's "Blame It" after the latter song led for 12 weeks, the longest reign in the chart's history. Last week, Foxx's title passed the 11-week run at No. 1 logged by TLC's "No Scrubs" in 1999.
SOLO, SO HIGH: With a ninth Mainstream Top 40 top 10 on her own, Beyonce passes the eight top 10s she tallied with Destiny's Child, as "Halo" lifts 11-6. Her new top 10 is the third from her album "I Am...Sasha Fierce," following the No. 9 "If I Were a Boy" and the No. 1 "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)." She nets her first trio of consecutive of top 10s since 2003.
At Adult Top 40, Rob Thomas collects his seventh top 10 in as many tries, as "Her Diamonds" shines 12-9. With Matchbox Twenty, Thomas owns an additional 12 top 10s. Among male artists, only John Mayer has more top 10 tracks (nine).
