2006 may not have been a manner year for music retail, but it was a bonanza for music lovers. Rock veterans like Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam and Tom Waits unveiled critically acclaimed new albums and chart mainstays such as Beyonce, Gwen Stefani and John Legend returned with blockbuster releases. There were also big hits from newcomers like Gnarls Barkley and Corinne Bailey Rae, and crossover country from the Dixie Chicks, Rascal Flatts and Keith Urban.
