There’s an old saw among established technology companies that says innovation happens elsewhere, that big ideas can come from small, unexpected places. That, at least, has been the ethos behind the steady stream of music-related application software interfaces (APIs). Last month, two companies, Gracenote and MediaNet, quietly added their APIs into the mix.
Today, Vevo is launching Vevo TV, a traditionally programmed, linear broadcast that harkens back to the era of appointment television. Like broadcast TV, Vevo’s new channel features a variety of originally created shows scheduled for specific times of the day, so that viewers who tune in at the same time will see the same show.
BandPage on Monday is unveiling a platform allowing bands to design and sell custom “experiences” such as these. Fans are also able to send suggestions about what types of experiences they would like to buy from their favorite artists. Among the 50 artists participating at launch are Parliament, Maroon 5, Stars, Nataly Dawn and others.
