Following up on its promise in June to launch an Internet radio product, Apple announced iTunes Radio will debut on Sept. 18 as a feature of its iOS 7 operating system. Apple SVP Craig Federighi spent less than two minutes showing off iTunes Radio creating a Rush station and calling it "a pure dose of awesomeness" before moving on to highlight iOS 7's other features. At the press conference's end, Elvis Costello in an iconoclast mood performed "Radio Radio."

Xbox Music is breaking out of the Microsoft box. The on-demand music service will be available as apps on Apple's iOS and Google's Android devices starting Monday with a freemium option, a move designed to broaden Xbox Music's distribution and audience in order to compete with the likes of Spotify, Rhapsody and others.
The entertainment world's fear and loathing of BitTorrent has, lately, started to give way to a more pragmatic attitude -- something along the lines of, "If you can't beat them, at least learn how to leverage them." The shift from pariah to potential partner comes as the result of BitTorrent's efforts to reach out to media companies and deliver tangible data results -- email addresses, awareness, traffic and, eventually, sales.
