Katy Perry is headed to India to play the opening ceremony of cricket's Indian Premier League which will take place in the southern city of Chennai. Dubbed IPL Opening Nite, it will be held on April 3, a day before the fifth edition of the popular cricket tournament gets underway.
Music publisher Sony/ATV has entered India's nascent music publishing market via a strategic alliance with Sony Music Entertainment India. Sony/ATV will manage Sony Music India's publishing works overseas while Sony Music India will manage Sony/ATV's international repertoire, which includes The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Elvis Persley, Michael Jackson, Beyonce and Lady Gaga.
Bollywood has a new fan in Lady Gaga. In her first appearance on an Indian talk show, Gaga said she loved Bollywood for “its heightened sense of reality and surreal genius" and that she was looking forward to coming to India in October, on a promotional visit getting to know some of Indian filmdom's reigning stars in addition to sampling Indian cuisine.
During Lady Gaga's first appearance on India's Most Desirable, an Indian talk show on the Star One network, she told host Simi Garewal that she is looking forward to coming to India in October and that she loved Bollywood and “its heightened sense of reality and surreal genius.”
Universal Music Group and U.K.-based Desi Hits, an east-west entertainment platform, have signed a worldwide recording agreement with top Bollywood actress and former Miss World Priyanka Chopra whose debut album will be released here through Interscope Records. Troy Carter, CEO of talent management agency Atom Factory, which also manages Lady Gaga, will manage Chopra worldwide.
