XM Satellite Radio says it signed up more than 640,000 listeners during the second quarter of 2005, bringing its grand total to 4.4 million subscribers. The figure marks a 53% gain over the second quarter of 2004, and an 18% lead over new net subscribers in first-quarter 2005.

Continuing its aggressive licensing of media brand names, Sirius Satellite Radio has inked an agreement with BBC Radio International to broadcast the British network's modern music Radio 1 station.
