Wilma

Artist Info

Biography

The rock trio Wilma consists of singer/bassist Amy Marshall, guitarist Johnny Marshall, and drummer Paul Lobel and has a sound not unlike such '80s female-fronted alternative bands as the B-52's, Blondie, the Pretenders, and the Divinyls. The band's roots lay in the obscure Dallas, TX, band Butch, which included both Amy and Johnny and formed in 1993, causing quite a stir on the local scene. But they strived for the big time, and soon a move to New York City was arranged in 1995. Hooking up shortly thereafter with Lobel, the band found a kindred musical spirit in producer Jerry Halatyn, who took the fledgling band under his wing and has since overseen the band's recordings. 1998 saw the release of Wilma's self-titled debut, which was followed up a year later with the sophomore effort A Piece of Work, issued on the group's self-owned label, Circling Buzzard Records. October 2001 saw the release of their third album, Rock the Box. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
