We Ugly Dogs put out just one single, 1968's "First Spring Rain"/"Poor Man." Contrary to what you might expect from a group with a name like We Ugly Dogs, "First Spring Rain" was orchestrated sunshine pop, a little like the early Bee Gees but more lightweight. While it was composed by lead singer Roger Gernelle, the flip, "Poor Man," was written by their producers, the Tokens, with the single getting released on the Tokens' label, BT Puppy. Understandably, the group's name was changed to the Canterbury Music Festival, and the second pressing of the single was issued under this billing. Both tracks were also included on the rare 1968 album by the Canterbury Music Festival, Rain & Shine, which was reissued on CD decades later. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide
