Reviews

New Orleans native Troy Andrews might be better known to his local fans as Trombone Shorty, the nickname he earned through his trombone playing in several jazz outfits. But that is only one of the many instruments played by Andrews, who is also quite adept at the trumpet, drums, and several other instruments. A professional musician since age five, Andrews was born into a music-rich family in New Orleans. Going to the same school as '90s jazz sensations Harry Connick, Jr. and Branford Marsalis, Andrews left the school in 2002 and recorded Trombone Shorty's Swingin' Gate at the age of 17. The same year he was a part of a tribute to Louis Armstrong on PBS and became the subject of a documentary about musicians around the country. ~ Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide
