Biography

RSS
Saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist Toups Bebey comes from one of Cameroon's great musical families, which also includes Francis Bebey among its members. Bebey's music marries the traditions of African music with newer styles, including jazz and funk. Performances at the 1996 Montreux Jazz Festival and the 1997 Montreal Jazz Festival with his band the Paris Africans, and collaborations with artists like Salif Keita, France Gall, Jean-Michel Jarre, and Julien Clerc, proved his versatility as a musician, as well as his ability to bring different musical styles together. 1999's Mummy I Go for Town, recorded with le Spirit Pan-African Brass Company, was his first album available domestically in the U.S. Cosmic Tones followed a year later. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
