Pianist and saxophone player Tommy Dodson didn't turn his attention to music until well into his forties. Although he studied piano and saxophone in the Ft. Scott, Kansas elementary schools, as a youngster, and cello in junior high school, music fell by the wayside as he focused on his professional life as an AT&T administrator. Returning to music, following his divorce in the mid-1990s, Dodson spent four years (1997-2001) as a cabaret performer on the Crystal Cruise Line. His debut album, Millenium, released in 1997, was followed by What A Wonderful World three years later. The son of a saxophone player for the Erskine Hawkins Orchestra, Dodson was deeply inspired by the smooth, sophisticated, playing of Nat King Cole. He continues to perform five nights a week in southern California's Laguna Beach, appearing every Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday at the restaurant/bar, French 75, and every Friday and Saturday, at the Savanna Steak and Chop House. ~ Craig Harris, All Music Guide
