No stranger to the stage, Todd Deatherage has been playing in clubs since the age of fifteen. In 2001, the Dallas, Texas-born singer-songwriter packed up and moved to Brooklyn, New York with his guitar and new material in tow in search of a new line-up for The Todd Deatherage Band. That same year, the singer had landed a record deal with the Texas-based indie label Summerbreak Records and released his debut album, "Dream Upon a Fallen Star," a collection of original country-pop infused tracks. Deatherage's longtime friend and Old 97's frontman, Rhett Miller, is featured on the track "Too Late Now." After playing a stint of solo shows in and around the New York City area, Deatherage was joined by Washington, D.C.-native and Berklee College of Music graduate drummer Chris Egan and keyboardist Corn Mo (a.k.a. Jon Cunningham), whose resume includes a spot in Rolling Stone's 2003 Cool Issue and numerous appearance on MTV's TRL. After Corn Mo departed the band to pursue solo projects, Deatherage was joined by childhood friend/ex-Texas bandmate Drew Fleming on guitars and back-up vocals in late 2002. Scotland-born bassist Kevin Thaxton followed suit in 2003 to complete the line-up. The Todd Deatherage Band continues to tour nationally. The country-rock quartet have opened for Rhett Miller, Old 97s, Wilco, Brendan Benson, Slobberbone, Jesse Malin, Junior Brown, and Reverend Horton Heat. In 2003, the band released their self-produced album, which features the title track, "Scared of You." ~ Kerry L. Smith, All Music Guide
