Three Years Down rev the old-school punk straight out of the hard rock garage. Gritty vocals rage about the devious lifestyle as heavy guitar riffs start the "Rawk 'n' Roll Partay." Their Stooges-meets-Motorhead molotov rocktail mixes well with garage revivalists like Streetwalkin' Cheetahs, Electric Frankenstein, and the Supersuckers, all of whom have toured with the band. Frontman/guitarist Jason Phillips and lead guitarist Matthew Seth Kilbourn formed Three Years Down in Oakland, CA, in 1994, enduring a series of lineup changes in the four years following. In 1995 they recruited bassist Bob Lindsey and drummer Dave E.C. (Filth, the Vagrants/Pot Valiant, the Wynona Riders, and Green Day in the days before Tre Cool). One year and one debut LP (Kill the Cool) later, E.C. was replaced by Thomas Becker (the Get Up Kids). Guitarist Joe Selby (toyboat, the Wynona Riders) joined the game of musical-member chairs in 1997, replacing Lindsey. After the band settled on their lineup of Kilbourn, Phillips, Selby, and E.C. -- who rejoined the band in 1998 -- they went to work on their second full-length, Creepy Baby, which was released in 2000. The Turbonegro fans also recorded the song "Self-Destructo Bust" for a tribute CD to the band called Alpha Motherfuckers (Bitzcore Records) that was released in May 2001. Three Years Down's third full-length, Snakes Bite, is set for release in the summer of 2001. ~ Jennifer Maerz, All Music Guide
