As is the case with the formation of any new musical genre, when surf music first began to gain recognition in the early '60s with such notables as the Beach Boys, Dick Dale, and the Ventures, countless other similarly styled bands slipped through the cracks -- one such artist being the Vara-Tones. After issuing a lone single in 1964 (their signature song "Repeto"), the Los Angeles-based band broke up, but after a 36-year layoff (!), the band (comprised of four gentleman who chose to go by just their first name -- bassist Gary, drummer Rich, and guitarists Bill and Terry), reunited to issue their first ever full-length album on the Orchard label, Jetty Subject to High Surf, featuring newly recorded tracks as well as the original version of "Repeto." ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
