Before the power pop band the Rewinds were the Rewinds, they were All Tomorrow's Parties, the Birmingham, AL, trio comprised of vocalist and guitarist Glenn Drennen, bassist Chris Markham, and drummer Brooks Marks. After recording a demo, the bandmembers decided they needed to fill out their sound, and added second guitarist Michael Shackelford. As it turned out, however, Shackelford was a singer and songwriter in his own right, and when the rest of the band (now called the Rewinds) heard his work, they decided to make him the lead vocalist instead of Drennen. Shortly after, they signed with Livewire Recordings and started rehearsing for the studio. In August 2005 the band began recording its first album, The Rewinds (taking time out to perform at the CMJ Festival); the album was released in June of the following year. ~ Marisa Brown, All Music Guide
