Upon their formation at the University of Houston in 2006, The Nice Guys stuck out from their contemporaries in the Houston rap scene with hip fashion sense and broad musical tastes. Circumventing the syrup-fueled southern sound of Paul Wall and Chamillionaire, the group found inspiration in alternative rap acts De La Soul and The Roots, and made a conscious effort to push hip-hop boundaries with a unique, innovative style of their own.
