The San Diego, CA, rock group known as the Good China formed in 1997. Members are vocalist and guitarist Ren Zenner, drummer Jeff Graves, keyboardist and percussionist Moises Ortiz, guitarist Gilbert Koury, and bassist Ted Mabbatt. Each member has a full-time day job to support their up-and-coming musical career. In fact, the day jobs they do are pretty atypical for rockers, including graphic designer, writer, finance officer, and construction contractor. In 1998, when the group had only been together for one short year, the Good China released a self-titled debut album. This outstanding 11-track offering earned them a lot of positive press from reviewers. For 2001, a sophomore album was finished up, titled Maid in America. The Good China's releases are filled with rock & roll numbers flavored with an alternative flair like "This is Your Life," "Another Day," "The Machine," "Strange," "500 Roses," "Barely Breathing," "Angel," and "She's Got You." ~ Charlotte Dillon, All Music Guide
