Biography

RSS
Following in the footsteps of such late-'90s, non-guitar bands as Ben Folds Five, the music of the more serious and jazzy Gabe Dixon Band is based on piano (Gabe Dixon, who also sings), bass (Winston Harrison), drums (Jano Rix), and saxophone (Chandler Webber). Formed in the fall of 1998 at the University of Miami's School of Music, the quartet started out playing at the campus' coffeehouse. By playing the Southeast steadily, the Gabe Dixon Band made a major admirer out of legendary producer/engineer Eddie Kramer, who agreed to produce the band's independently released debut album, More Than It Would Seem, in 1999. Relocating to Brooklyn, NY, shortly thereafter, the quartet impressed another renowned producer (and Warner Bros. VP), David Kahne, who in turn signed them to Warner Bros./Reprise and produced their major-label debut, On a Rolling Ball, released in the fall of 2001. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
