Led by vocalist Simon Steadman, the Dharmas were one of the most promising British bands of the mid-1990s. While their music was firmly rooted in Brit-pop and British folk-rock, their use of fiddle, instead of guitar, as a lead instrument gave them a unique sound. Signed by Arista's British division, the Dharmas went to work on their debut album. When the label refused to release it, following its completion, its relationship with the band began to sour. Getting out of their contract, they changed their name to Steadman and released their subsequent recordings on Steadman's own label, Freeloader. While a few singles, including "Three Miles High", "One Day Die" and "Runaway", were released on the Johnny label, the Dharmas' album remains available only by mail order. ~ Craig Harris, All Music Guide
