Comprised of Nomadic and Sonny Santino, the hip-hop duo Boss Playas arrived on the scene with no geographical location to tie them to, no affiliated rap crew to link them to, and a unique set of skills that immediately grabbed music mogul Clive Davis. Nomadic came from Memphis, TN, while Sonny Santino was born and raised in South Hampton, NJ. The two met as teenagers in Buffalo, NY, a town that had not brought a major player to the game since the days of Rick James, so there wasn't any chance they'd become part of any local scene. With so much freedom working alone and unbothered, the two would learn how to rap, sing, write, produce, and engineer their own recordings out of necessity, and the few who were lucky enough to hear their demos claimed they had mastered everything they attempted. By the time they approached Davis' J-Records, they had 50 songs to present, but they took the bold move of refusing to leave their tapes and requested the label representatives listen to the tracks before the duo left. They did, and two days later Boss Playas were meeting with Davis, working out a deal that would be signed within a week. At the end of summer 2006, the label released the tracks "Who's Ya Boy?" and "Can You Dig" to promote Boss Playas' debut full-length. ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide
