Biography

RSS
Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Stacey Board was born in Decatur, AL. She began singing as a small child, and is mostly self-taught, though she did take some voice lessons and a little classical guitar training. Board wrote her first song when she was a teenager. Around that same time, when she was about 16, a dare to sing on the sidewalk outside of a local radio station -- which she jokingly counts as her debut public appearance -- landed her a membership in her first band. She was under age, and her parents had to sign papers for her to perform in bars with the group. There were other bands after that, but Board also did a lot of solo work that consisted of simply her voice, her music, and her guitar. Later she began to appear more often with a band supporting her. Members of that band include guitarist Tucker Rountree, bassist Peter Jensen, and drummer Chris Burton. In between gigs Board has kept the electricity on and the rent paid by taking day jobs that range from your run-of-the-mill receptionist to an actual test pilot for a hang gliding company. In 1998 Stacey Board released of her debut album, Simple Thing. "If Wishes Were Horses," "Fine Fine Thing," "Lovely Ride," and "Be My Lover" are some of the tracks from this first offering. A sophomore album, Not Love Art, was finished a year later, and carries fan-pleasing numbers like "Haunting My Dreams," "Don't Look Now You're Happy," "Lullaby," and "All the Time in the World." A live EP, titled Sketchbook and the album Drive, followed it in 2001. All were released under the SkySongs Records label. ~ Charlotte Dillon, All Music Guide
