Pace-Rhodes hails from a family of singers active in the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) music movement. She and her siblings formed The Anointed Pace Sisters of Atlanta in the mid-'70s and were known for their contemporary R&B gospel sound. She sang "That Name" on one of Edwin Hawkins's Music and Arts seminal albums in 1987. It was he who personally went to the head of Savoy-Malaco Records and suggested they sign the belting singer as a solo artist, and they did. Rather than cutting her chops on modern styles, Pace-Rhodes sang music that recalls the days of Mahalia Jackson and the Ward Singers. ~ Bil Carpenter, All Music Guide
