Biography

Named for a classic album by the Flamin' Groovies, Shake Some Action! is a band from Seattle, WA, steeped in the influences of classic pop from the '60s through the '90s. Shake Some Action! was formed by singer, guitarist, and songwriter James Hall, an Australian �migr� who earned a loyal cult following in the Pacific Northwest for his work with the band the Jeunes. While the Jeunes earned enthusiastic press in both America and the United Kingdom for a pair of self-released EPs, the band split up in autumn 2005, with most of their repertoire unrecorded. Hall decided to use the Jeunes' song catalog as the basis for a solo album, and retreated to his home studio, cutting a dozen tunes with Hall playing all the instruments, except for guitar leads contributed by former Jeunes member David Bos. After completing the album, Hall opted to release it under the group name Shake Some Action!, and then formed a band to play the songs at live gigs in support of the record. Hall and Bos became Shake Some Action!'s guitarists, while the rhythm section of bassist Gary Miller and drummer Chris Campbell was recruited from fellow Seattle popmeisters the Scheme. Indie label Satellite 451 released Shake Some Action!'s self-titled debut in early 2007. ~ Mark Deming, All Music Guide
