Later called Seven Storey Mountain, this Arizona threesome -- consisting of vocalist/guitarist Lance Lammers, bassist Dave Norwood, and drummer Chad Kinney -- specializes in a smart brand of hurtling post-punk dissonance, melody, aggression, and emotion. Like many other bands lumped into the unfortunate emocore ghetto, Seven Storey are influenced by D.C. hardcore, but they bring their own desert-bound intensity to the genre. Additionally, their keen melodicism sometimes approaches that of more commercial bands like the Foo Fighters. Their first EP, Based on a True Story, was recorded in late 1997 and early 1998, and it wasn't until nearly four years later that the group recorded their first full-length effort, 2002's Dividing by Zero, which was released by Deep Elm Records. By fall 2006, the band was signed to Thick Records, who then released their follow-up effort in January 2007. ~ Andy Hinds, All Music Guide
