Sawdust Devil got their start in Omaha, NE, through the husband and wife collaboration of Richard Schultz (vocals/guitar) and Melissa Wood (bass/vocals). Bringing on a metallic noise of classic rock, as well as a self-parody of humorous lyrics, the duo began strictly as a studio project with session drummer Dan Leonard contributing to their first album. Resulting in the 1996 release of Affirmative, Sawdust Devil began playing out around Nebraska with former Such Sweet Thunder drummer Sven Wood. But by 1997, the band soon fell apart after being dropped from their label Ismist Records. Afterward, frontman Schultz released several cassette singles by himself as an acoustic performer. ~ Mike DaRonco, All Music Guide
