Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Ryan Auffenberg was born in Jefferson City, Missouri, where he spent his childhood, among other things, singing in church and studying classical guitar. While in high school he became interested in theater, and after graduating he moved to New York City to study theater arts further. He also began writing songs, and sensing that his future might well lie in the direction of music, he moved across the country to California to study literature and theater at Santa Clara University. After graduating from Santa Clara, he moved briefly to Chicago (and also did a stint in London) before returning to California, settling this time in San Francisco. There he started playing shows on the West Coast circuit and began working with Dylan Magiecrek at Badman Recording in San Francisco. In 2003 Auffenberg self-released the album Climb, following it with the also self-released Bright Lights EP in 2006. He then signed to Evangeline Records, which issued Marigolds in 2008. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
