Childhood friends-turned-bandmates Anna and Frida started making recordings as the Rough Bunnies in 2002 following the breakup of Inside Riot, a band they'd formed when they were teenagers. The Swedish duo cultivated a childlike, wry, unapologetically lo-fi aesthetic that nodded to acts like the Moldy Peaches, Talulah Gosh, and (in some of their reverb-ier moments) Black Tambourine. The duo self-released a few homemade recordings over the course of the next two years: C-Sides (2002), Toff Hevn (2004), andSaved My Life (2004). 2006 found the Rough Bunnies adding several releases to their discography; that year, their fourth release, Weisse Westen, was put out on the Michigan-based label Ypsilanti Records, a split EP, Love Is Hot For, was released on MyHoney Records, and the Rough Bunnies self-released their sixth album, A Circus Beat. On top of all this, Anna and Frida also released a download-only album, The Rough Bunnies Goes Pirate, which was made available for free on their website. ~ Margaret Reges, All Music Guide
