Hailing from the Southern California area, the Ron Kobayashi Trio consists of pianist/leader Kobayashi, bassist Baba Elefante, and drummer Steve Dixon. Kobayashi has performed with the likes of Mel Tormé, the Modernaires, and Tim Weisberg, among others, and is a solo recording artist in his own right for Casierra Records. Elefante has performed with jazz trumpeter Roy Hargrove, saxophonist Pete Christlieb, and singer of prog rockers Kansas, John Elefante (he's also been voted one of the top U.S. bassists in Bass Player Magazine). Dixon has done numerous recording sessions for others, including saxophonist Richie Cole, the Untouchables, and War harmonica player Lee Oskar. Together as the Ron Kobayashi Trio, the outfit has played countless jazz festivals since the mid-'90s, issuing three releases thus far: 1999's Trio, 2000's Exotic Places, and 2001's No Preservatives. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
