Ken Rockwood and Danielle Brancaccio mold the folk-rock styles of Professor and Maryann, the musical outfit that began in their native New York in the early '90s. Rockwood's singer/songwriter brilliance and the angelic vocal beauty of Brancaccio quickly cast the duo as a sure success. They inked a deal with Bar-None Recordings after their third gig, an impressive performance opening for Freedy Johnston at the celebrated CBGB's. Fairy Tale marked Professor and Maryann's debut album in 1994, and Alternative Press touted them as "a Simon and Garfunkel for our age..." Two years later, Lead Us Not Into Penn Station was released. This particular album showcased a more advanced sound from Professor and Maryann, for deep jazz roots and cabaret inspired songs swirled perfectly among pop hooks and simplistic harmonies. The self-titled third album followed in early 2001. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide
