Process & the Doo Rags

Artist Info

Formed

Buffalo, NY

Biography

Produced by Rick James, Process & the Doo Rags looked like a '50s doo-wop group with their "processed" hairdos. Actually, the Buffalo, NY group was in vogue, a part of a brief mid-'80s run of harmonizing vocal groups that also included the Force MDs. The group's lineup was former Rick James backup singer James Hawkins, Stacy Lattimore, Henry Graham, Dennis Andrews, and Michael Gibson. Their charting single, "Stomp and Shout," from their 1985 Columbia LP, Too Sharp, became a post-release collectible. The group's hard-to-find 1987 Columbia album was titled Process and the Doo Rags with the standout track the optimistic dance track "Stagelights," written by Leroy Burgess and Sonny Davenport and produced by Aleem. Process and the Doo Rags' other charting singles were "I Promise to Remember" and "Call Me Up." ~ Ed Hogan, All Music Guide
