Biography

As part of the Stockholm-based trio Peter Bjorn and John, singer/guitarist Peter Morén helped bring the luminous sounds of Swedish pop to a universal audience in the 2000s. The band's third album, Writer's Block, firmly catapulted his songwriting contributions into the spotlight, due in large part to the infectious single "Young Folks." Following a lengthy bit of touring, the singer began premiering solo material at intimate New York venues in 2007, focusing on music that was considerably more folksy and low-key than his work with Peter Bjorn and John. Solo concerts eventually gave way to a solo disc, which drew upon the subject of adolescence and featured artwork from Morén's girlfriend. Entitled The Last Tycoon (a reference to F. Scott Fitzgerald's posthumously released The Love of the Last Tycoon, as well the 1976 movie adaptation), the record was slated for an April 2008 release on Quarterstick Records. ~ Andrew Leahey, All Music Guide
