Chicago-born guitarist Nils Lofgren (1951-) made his professional debut, in 1968, as a member of Paul Dowell and the Dolphin. Although his playing helped to propel the band's two singles, "Get Together" b/w "Gubb's Blues" and "It's Better To Know You" b/w "Last Time I Saw You", in 1968, Lofgren didn't attract national attention until teaming with Neil Young half a decade later. A session pianist, guitarist and vocalist on Young's 1970 album, After The Gold Rush, he joined Young"s backup band, Crazy Horse in 1972. Continuing to simultaneously lead his own band, Grin, he recorded four albums between 1971 and 1974 and a self-titled solo album in 1975. Lofgren has remained one of rock's great sidemen. Performing with Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band since 1984, he toured with Ringo Starr's All Star Band in 1989. ~ Craig Harris, All Music Guide
