Biography
Launching his career as a St. Louis-based session musician, Paul Delicato played bass with Ike & Tina Turner, Little Milton, Chuck Berry, Albert King, and Fontella Bass. Stepping into the spotlight, Delicato reached his apex in 1975, when his singles "Ice Cream Sodas and Lollipops and a Hot Spinning Top" and "Cara Mia" reached the Billboard Top Ten.Singing since the age of 20, Delicato initially accompanied himself on guitar. Switching to the bass as a member of Mary Kaye's jazz/lounge trio, the instrument has remained his tool of choice. Since 1980, Delicato has primarily focused on creating and appearing in multi-artist revues in Las Vegas. He served as host, musician, and featured performer at the Aladdin Hotel's show, Country Tonite, from 1992 until the hotel closed in 1997. He performed and directed a version of the show staged in Branson, MO, in 1994. Moving over to the Westward Ho Hotel and Casino, he wrote and directed a similar show, Country Generation.
Delicato returned to touring in 1998 as a bass player for Bill Haley & His Comets. Although he rejoined the cast of Country Tonite, in Pigeon Forge, TN, for two seasons, he resumed his work with Bill Haley & His Comets in 2000. He returned to Pigeon Forge, where he appeared in the Black Bear Jamboree following the tour. Signing with Germany-based label ZYX, Delicato released a CD, So Many Ways, in 2002. ~ Craig Harris, All Music Guide
