Biography

Palm Skin Productions specialize in darkside dub excursions, heavy on the downtempo breakbeats, jazzy flourishes and gut-bucket percussion. It's all the work of one Simon Richmond, though occasional collaborator Chris Bowden often appears on saxophone. Richmond first worked as a percussionist for the Talkin' Loud label's in-house session team K Collective, working on tracks by Jhelisa, Neneh Cherry and D*Note. He began recording as Palm Skin Productions in 1994, and appeared on the 4th & Broadway compilation series Rebirth of Cool with the track "Spock with a Beard." Richmond followed with two 1996 singles for Mo' Wax Records, "Like Brothers" and "The Beast," then moved to Hut for his debut album Remilixir. He has also remixed Galliano, Global Communication, United Future Organization, D*Note and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
