Songstress Nefertiti Jones blends the sheer contemporary sounds of Shawn Colvin, the grit of Emmylou Harris, and the beauty of Minnie Riperton for her own branded urban folk. A native New Yorker, she first got her start in music at the age of eight when she began singing in the Children's Musical Theater. Her formative years were spent at the critically acclaimed LaGuardia High School of Music and Art, and Jones' glossy vocals allowed her to shape a career as a professional singer/songwriter. The latter '90s were spent showcasing her distinct style around the San Francisco scene. She landed dates with Lilith Fair in 1998 and issued her debut, Still Time. The new millennium, however, found Jones back in her Manhattan digs and a new circuit. She performed at the annual CMJ Music Festival in 2001 and club gigs at Brownies and Joe's Pub, introducing material from her sophomore effort. Here and Now. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide
