Biography

Though she was born in Casablanca, Nathalie Matthews grew up in Montreal, where she learned how to play the piano, the flute, and the saxophone, as well as develop her vocal abilities. Placing well at and winning some local talent awards, Matthews was able to secure a spot as backup singer for Celine Dion on her tour, after which she decided to strike out on her own, sticking mostly to the Canadian circuit. In 2005, however, the singer embarked southward, participating in music competitions in the U.S. and wowing judges with her impressive vocal range, finally releasing her self-titled debut, a mix of clean pop and radio-friendly R&B, in 2007. ~ Marisa Brown, All Music Guide
