Biography

A spunky five-piece centering around the confident vocals of namesake singer Nanyana Summer, Nanyana delivers a potent blend of feminine alternative rock and Stevie Ray Vaughan-style electric blues. Summer grew up in a military home, where she was exposed to 80's quiet storm R&B and Thai pop music at an early age. Summers started an all-girl group in her neighborhood, where her love of alternative rock was more evident than anything else. She moved to Atlanta and struck up a friendship with the band Stuck Mojo, who even included her in their "Pig Walk" video. She also met Arrested Development's Speech, who encouraged her to perform and even helped her write some of her earliest material. But once she met her future bandmates in Nanyana, it was just a matter of putting together a batch of songs. They rehearsed and recorded into 2001, when their eponymous debut was released. ~ Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide
