Biography

Legendary bluegrass bassist, singer, and songwriter Marshall Wilborn was raised in the heat and humidity of Austin, TX. At a very early age he learned to play the banjo, a classic instrument in bluegrass. That being true, many of the friends who he performed with also happened to prefer the banjo. It was somewhat hard to get a group together, when everyone played the same instrument, so Wilborn switched over to the bass. His skills as a bassist soon earned him plenty of attention. During his long successful career, Wilborn has worked and recorded with numerous other artists, including James King, Bob Amos, Bill Grant, Jimmy Martin, the Johnson Mountain Boys, Hazel Dickens, and the hit and chart-making group Longview. Wilborn has also performed with his wife, the celebrated Lynn Morris, in her own bluegrass band. Along the way he has earned awards like the International Bluegrass Music Association's Song of the Year. His music has also received a Grammy nomination. In 1999 Wilborn finished recording his debut solo album, Root 5 Bass & Banjo. It was released under the Florida-based Pinecastle Records label. He enlisted some talented help when he began working on the album, such as Lynn Morris, Pete Wernick, Alan Munde, and Tony Furtado. "You Can Stop Me from Dreaming," "Careless Love," "Little Rock Getaway," "Old Folks at Home," and "Lady of Spain" are some of the 13 tracks packed into this highly instrumental offering. ~ Charlotte Dillon, All Music Guide
