English alternative, post-grunge, and hard rock trio Man Raze formed around the talents of veteran rockers Phil Collen (Def Leppard), Paul Cook (Sex Pistols), and Simon Laffy (Girl). Collen and longtime friend and Girl bandmate Laffy began toying with the idea in 2004 while Collen was home in London to care for his ailing father, but it wasn't until Collen bumped into drummer Cook that Man Raze began to take shape. The group's eclectic blend of raw punk, pop hooks, and dub-kissed post-grunge made its first appearance on the 2005 EP Skin Crawl. Both critics and fans agreed that the trio was more than just a vanity project, and the group returned to the studio to record its full-length debut. The resulting Surreal was released in early 2008. ~ James Christopher Monger, All Music Guide
