The duo of Main & Merc got their start in Virginia Beach, home to the Neptunes, Clipse, and other rap talents. Both Main & Merc were business students at Virginia Commonwealth University when, through the graces of a choreographer for Missy Elliott, they were offered a deal with Big Up Entertainment. If Big Up were not owned by hockey star Anson Carter it's unlikely that the deal with the unknown and unproven label would have seemed a good move for the group, but with him comes, if nothing else, a healthy sports celebrity buzz. ~ Wade Kergan, All Music Guide
