Mexican Los Cardenales de Nuevo Leon emerged in 1982 in their native Monterrey, N.L. After signing up with Disa Records the "bajo sexto" and accordion-driven quintet debuted with Si Yo Fuera El in 1987. A year later La Chuyita led the norteņo outfit to achieve their first gold record. In 1992 Los Cardenales de Nuevo Leon received the Golden Saguaro (named after the state symbol of Arizona) for their acclaimed performance at the First Norteņo Festival held in Phoenix, AZ. ~ Drago Bonacich, All Music Guide
