Alt-country combo Little Grizzly began in 1989 as the solo alias of Denton, TX-based singer/songwriter George Neal, who in the years to follow proceeded to build a loyal cult following on the strength of his weekly performances at a local pizza parlor. In 1996 Will Johnson of the Denton indie-rock band Centro-matic offered to record Neal's songs to four-track, resulting in a self-released cassette as well as a single, "Spelunker"; soon after Little Grizzly became a true band with the additions of bassist Jon Turner and drummer Colin Carter, and in the fall of 1997, the trio returned to the studio to record the material issued two years later as Please Let Me Go, It Wasn't Meant to Be. In the interim Turner was replaced by bassist Jacob Barnhardt. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
