Equally inspired by noise rock like the Blood Brothers and the Locust, French house, and Prince ("Raspberry Beret" in particular), Nottingham DJ/producer Lillica Libertine began crafting an especially addictive strain of U.K. electro while still in his teens. Born Laurence Matthew Blake, Lillica Libertine creates his beat-heavy tracks from scratch and tops them with sampled vocals, drawing inspiration from playing movies without the sound on as he works. Libertine was affiliated with the Nottingham club Liar's Club and Fresh Out of Death, a monthly club night that also featured Late of the Pier among its guest DJs. Along with remixes for acts such as the Real Heat, the Dead Kids, and Papa Vito, Lillica Libertine also released the double A-sided Limited Edition/Ultra 10 single on Meal Deal, the label of fellow electronic genre-benders Tapedeck. Manhunt, which was released by the French label Place Blanche, arrived in early 2008. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
