Originally formed in 1995 by vocalist and guitarist Tor Magne Glidje, Lengsel (which means "longing" in Norwegian) were a progressive black metal trio rounded out by bassist Jon Robert Mjåland and drummer Ole Halvard Sveen. United by Christianity, of all things, they released a critically acclaimed debut album entitled Solace in 2000, but their career would be cut short when all three of them agreed to join fellow Christian proggies Extol a short time later. Several years passed, then, before the trio decided to record a second, less positively reviewed Lengsel album, The Kiss, the Hope, in 2006. But since they are still active members of Extol, no one can be sure whether Glidje, Mjåland, and Sveen will venture out as Lengsel for a third time. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide
