Kublai Khan

Artist Info

Biography

1980s metal band Kublai Khan released one well-received album after a few years of underground presence and opening spots for touring groups, including Metal Church. Formed in Minnesota in 1984 by Greg Handevidt (who had just spent a brief time in Megadeth) and guitarist Kevin Idso, Kublai Khan became active on the local scene after the addition of bassist Mike Liska and drummer John Fedde. After a few opening slots for some larger names in metal, including King Diamond, Kreator, and Metal Church, Kublai Khan found itself with a wider fan base. The band's debut recording, Annihilation (1987, New Renaissance), featured songs by Handevidt and Idso. The release earned them some attention and praise, but inner conflict resulted in Kublai Khan disbanding just two years later. ~ Joslyn Layne, All Music Guide
