An alternative rock/'romantic punk' act from Milan, Italy, Kalashnikov was formed in 1996 by three of its members after a few too many. While such beginnings are usually tentative at best, Kalashnikov was able to keep the message strong and released a handful of albums in a more than ten year career. The group released its first album, Punkhaka in 1996, and followed that with Skalashnicore in 1997, and Il Grande Formicaio in 1998. By 1999, Kalashnikov could count as its members Cinzia (vocals), Arci (bass), Sarta (guitar), Puj (guitar), Rissa (drums), and Don (keyboards). Although 2001 would see the band release album number four, Romantic Songs of Dissidence, it would also see the departure of Cinzia, who would be replaced by vocalist Milena. But before the new and improved Kalashnikov could get rolling again, bassist Arci took a bow, and Nino was called in to fill the empty slot. The group made its return in 2003 with Songs About Amore and Revolution, which was quickly followed by 2004's EP Rebels of the Neon Gods. Music Is a Gun Loaded With Future followed in 2005. By 2006's Dreams For Super-Defeated Heroes, the line up had settled with Annalisa rounding out the sound on synthesizer, and Peppus adding what the band called ‘conceptual support.' ~ Chris True, All Music Guide
