Biography

Junk Science, a hip-hop duo hailing from Brooklyn, makes music that is often laced with witty, sometimes outrageous humor that acts alongside organic, quirky beats and well-crafted, often sociopolitical lyrics. MC Baje One and producer DJ Snafu grew up together in Brooklyn, and in early 2005, they won car company Scion's NextUp Song Contest with their track "Roads," which earned them a marketing deal that included a fully funded and fly music video directed by Andrew Gura, who had done videos for artists such as Madlib, MF Doom, and Nas. Around that time they finished their debut LP, Feeding Einstein, which caught the attention of DJ Ese and Brooklyn-based Embedded Records, and was released in November of 2005 to critical acclaim. Their sophomore record, Gran'Dad's Nerve Tonic, came out in October 2007 on Embedded Music/Definitive Jux. To promote it, Junk Science and Brooklyn brewery Six Points Craft Ales created a limited-release brew, available in a limited bottling and on tap in bars and restaurants around N.Y.C., to coincide with the release of the album. ~ Vincent Thomas, All Music Guide
