Fiddle player Joseph Cormier grew up in Chéticamp (a French-speaking town in Cape Breton), but picked up on his instrument by hearing Scottish fiddlers in nearby towns, resulting in Cormier's original style. His music has often been described as either Celtic or traditional folk, as evidenced by any of his solo releases from the '90s on the Rounder label -- 1992's Old Time Wedding Reels and Other Favorite Scottish Fiddle Tunes and Joseph Cormier and Friends, 1998's Informal Sessions (which saw Cormier teamed up with fellow Chéticamp musician Edmond Boudreau on guitar and bass and Eddie Irwin on piano), and 2001's Dances Down Home. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
