Jan Panter was part of the ubiquitous legions of girl singers who poured into London, and whose recorded work streamed out of the British record industry across the early to mid-'60s. What made her slightly different was that she actually hailed from London. Her recording career began in 1965 with her single cover of "My Two Arms -- You = Tears," a song originally done by Mary Wells, released by the soon-to-be-defunct Oriole label. A year later, she was working with producer Mark Wirtz, who directed the session for the best-known of her four singles, "Put Yourself in My Place" (and also, according to scholars Malcolm Baumgart and Mick Patrick in their annotation for Here Come the Girls, reportedly considered changing her name to "Charlotte Green"). ~ Bruce Eder, All Music Guide
